Handful of Herbs /

Illustrated Pocket Book

Handful of Herbs is an illustrated pocketbook that brings a quiet little blog-story written by Suma Jayachandar to life — one about grandma’s home, her kitchen garden, and the bittersweet feeling of knowing it’s not quite the same anymore.

Think tulsi by the window, drying coriander on newspapers, and stories that smelled like ginger and home.

This project reimagines a childhood memory into something you can flip

through — illustrated with care, laid out with love, and designed to feel like a warm afternoon spent in the past.

It’s a small ode to the spaces (and smells) we never really forget.

  • Balancing Creativity with Structure /  Designing a publication for the first time was both challenging and rewarding. I learned how important it is to balance creativity with the structural demands of a print format. From deciding on margins and grids to ensuring text and images flowed harmoniously, I realized that publication design is a meticulous process. It’s not just about the visuals—it’s about creating a cohesive experience for the reader. I discovered the importance of attention to detail, consistency, and how every element on a page contributes to the overall narrative

  • The Power of Illustrating Memories /                  This project taught me how deeply personal stories can be transformed into a visual experience. Reimagining a childhood memory into a full-fledged publication for the first time allowed me to create something that wasn’t just read—it was felt. Illustrating a space, a smell, and a moment made it real again, and showed me how powerful design can be in preserving memories. Sometimes, less is more actually is more impactful
